How to use Table Linens for Everyday & Occasions

Table linens are more than just functional pieces, they’re an effortless way to bring warmth, texture, and personality into your home. Whether you're setting the table for a casual breakfast or hosting a festive dinner, the right tablecloth, runner, or napkin can weave a little charm into the everyday.

At our studio, where every block-printed piece is thoughtfully handcrafted, we believe beautiful textiles can make the everyday feel special.

If you're wondering how to use table linens for both everyday and special occasions, here are some styling tips and practical ideas to get you started.

1. Elevate Everyday Meals with Simple Linens

You don’t need a party to bring out the good linens, life is too short anyway to stash away our collectibles and wait for an occasion. So dig inside your Linen cupboard to pull out a soft cotton block printed tablecloth or a simple runner that can instantly brighten up your dining table and make every meal feel special.

Tips for daily use:

  • Opt for machine-washable cotton or linen fabrics that are easy to maintain

  • Choose small-scale prints or neutral tones that pair well with everyday basic dinnerware.

  • Layer a table runner over a bare table for a minimal but intentional look. If you want to step it up slightly add some table mats too.

  • Mix and match printed , solid , woven , striped napkins which are reusable, sustainable, and so much prettier than the paper towels.

2. Dress Up Your Table for Special Occasions

Hosting guests? A beautifully set table can set the tone for your entire gathering. Whether it’s a festive holiday dinner, a birthday brunch, or a cozy evening with your girl gang, table linens help create a mood and make the guests feel welcome and truly special. Food is the heart of any gathering and people always remember how you made them feel. Going all out with a styled table with little details is something no guest can ignore and forget.

Styling ideas for occasions:

  • A nice tablecloth as your base be it florals, paisleys, Buffalo checks or traditional motifs specially around a theme or certain time of the year work beautifully.
  • Add a contrasting or complementing runner for dimension in the center where you will also place the dishes.
  • Add some fresh flowers as a centrepiece or scatter them in smaller bud vases for a casual and maximalist style. Take note of varying their height to add visual interest.
  • Printed cloth napkins can be folded in interesting shapes or style them with a napkin ring, think tying them with some twine and a sprig of fresh herbs for a rustic touch say if you are hosting around Spring.
  • Don’t shy away from layering prints and patterns to create an interesting  juxtaposition. Mix florals with stripes or checks to add visual richness.
  • Add personal name cards for each guest that you could either hand draw , craft with kids even or get printed at the local print shop. Go a step further and add a pretty menu card.
  • Layer in candles of varying heights to create a soft, cozy glow. If open flames aren’t ideal, opt for LED candles, battery-operated table lamps, or even a string of fairy lights for the same ambient charm — minus the worry.
  • Bring out the crockery and cutlery you’ve tucked away, now’s the time to use it. Don’t worry about everything matching perfectly. Mixing different pieces can add charm and create a playful, eclectic table that feels personal and inviting.

 3. Add Seasonal touches with Colour & Print & Decor

Table linens are a wonderful way to bring the seasons into your home.

  • Spring/Summer: Opt for light cottons, floral motifs, sage greens, and soft blush tones. Use garden herbs in creative ways to accentuate the arrival of Spring.

  • Monsoon: Embrace deeper indigos, natural neutrals, and moodier prints that reflect the weather.

  • Festive/Autumn: Think saffron, deep reds, marigold, and hand-blocked gold accents for Diwali or festive gatherings. For Autumn pick rusts and ochre's in checks or seasonal autumn prints like maple leaves, pumpkins.

  • Winter: Layer with heavier cottons or opt for quilted versions in deeper tones like olive, wine, or rust for a cozy, intimate table. Layer with lots of lights and candles and fresh greenery.

Incorporating handmade table linens into your daily rituals and celebrations not only adds beauty to your space but also connects you to something meaningful. Each piece in our collection is hand-printed using traditional techniques designed to be used, loved, and passed down. Whether it's a casual family lunch or a festive dinner party, let your table tell a story.
